The Orpheus Singers was founded in Hadleigh, Essex in 2008 and under the professional musical direction of David Clark, our 140+ ladies choir goes from strength to strength.
Our repertoire covers songs from stage and screen, traditional folk, popular songs and spirituals and through our many concerts in the Essex area and tours beyond, we have been delighted to be able to raise funds for local, national and international charities.

Singing out for Bosom Pals Appeal

A CD entitled Orpheus Together has been specially created by The Orpheus Singers and Leigh Orpheus Male Voice Choir to raise money for Southend University Hospital’s Bosom Pals Appeal at the start of breast cancer awareness month.
To support the fight against breast cancer the Bosom Pals Appeal is raising money to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for the earlier detection of smaller breast cancers.
On Saturday 1st October 2011, the CD was launched at the Park Inn Palace Hotel along Southend seafront, with tracks from it sung that evening at a special concert held at Westcliff High School for Boys.
The CD features a varied mix of songs from show tunes to pop classics and folk to spiritual. Lead by Musical Director David Clark, it is the first time the two choirs, which both perform regularly for local, national and international charities, have come together in such a collaboration.

“Many people are affected by breast cancer or are touched in some way by a family member or friend who has the condition,” says Marion Orchard, chairman of the Orpheus Singers. “This is an excellent opportunity to support Southend Hospital’s Bosom Pals Appeal.”

Choir Tour April 2011
In April last year, the choir’s 2nd tour took them to Devon where two Concerts were held at Ilfracombe’s Emmanuel Church, one singing with the Ilfracombe Male Voice Choir; a Concert in Braunton’s modern Christ Church and an afternoon performance in the ballroom of the prestigious Woolacombe Bay Hotel. All performances were well received by audiences making the tour a great success.
